Technology and Ecology.
Being a green photographer means taking a step in helping to make the world a healthier, happier place to live for generations to come. I am conscious about the impact my carbon footprint has on the environment.
Following an eco-conscious lifestyle is second nature for me and incorporating it into my photography business is something I am more than happy to do. From the digital SLR cameras, to the online proofing, output of eco-friendly albums, recycling of paper in my home office, and back to my personal life … it’s a cycle in and of itself.
Online Proofing.
As a photographer, I have decided to provide my proofing through a personal website for my bride and groom as well as giving access for friends and family to view the images. This has solved a few nuisances in regards to printed 4×6 images that can reach in quantities of up to 1500. The prints are difficult to thumb through and eventually get thrown into the box they came in and tossed in a drawer for years.
Having such a great online system allows for easy navigation and convenient selections of your favorite images to be printed.
I recently switched over from CDs and DVDs to thumb drives which makes a tremendous difference when it comes to storage space and longevity. DVDs are prone to scratches and fingerprints which can damage the written data and sometimes only last about 5 years tops before needing to be replaced, sometimes, no matter how sparingly you use the disc.
A bonus to making the conversion to thumb drives is less waste and yet another step towards a cleaner world.
Album Companies.
I use two specific album companies who also care about the environment and donate proceeds towards preserving nature. One company is Couture Books. They use 100% post-consumer recycled paper and cover materials. Couture Books also offers a lifetime guarantee on the manufacturing and binding of their albums.
Recycling.
I recycle everything I can in my personal life as well as business life. I am constantly finding new ways of cutting out waste on a daily basis as well as making new uses for old things.
My business cards are made from recycled paper and I use a waterless offset printing process for my brochures and pamphlets.
