One of these days, this year, I’m going to go on a hot air balloon ride. I’m a bit afraid of heights and would never jump out of an air plane unless I absolutely had to but there’s just something about aerial photography that I love. So I suppose swinging from a basket isn’t SO bad, right?! Maybe they can strap a parachute to my back as an extra precaution.
I have no idea when my love of balloons manifested but I was bound to get up close and personal before taking off in one of these things. I have the luxury of counting how many balloons go up during the weekend on random trips up the I-17 and I think the most I’ve counted was 15 at one time. My hope is to catch a Groupon coupon for a major discount on a ride. Those rides can get pretty expensive!
So, any way, Tonto Bar and Grill in Cave Creek hosted a hot air balloon festival last weekend and there was no way I was going to miss out on it. I took my camera and wide angle lens and booked it out to the golf course, passed two thousand other people, and experienced my first close encounter with the rare flying object.
There were about 12 balloons altogether spread out along the golf course at dusk. Watching flames shooting up through the middle thinking surely these things would catch fire if the wind blew the wrong way.
Check these out and I’ll post some more a bit later!
