About a week out from his scheduled hot air balloon ride, Joseph sent me an email to meet for coffee and we discussed his idea of proposing to Elena in mid-air. He had been planning this occasion for a month and surely had every detail worked out, slightly varying versions cycling through his head. Praying that this time the weather would cooperate. With two canceled reservations due to windy conditions, the third time had to be the charm . . . right?
Elena had only the slightest clue what was about to happen.
We planned it out where the balloon chasers would give me a call with a location before Joseph + Elena landed. Saturday morning went like this:
6:30 a.m. ~ text from Joseph: “We just got airborne.”
7:05 a.m. ~ Phone call from balloon chaser, Brian.: “We are about 20 minutes from landing.”
20 minutes out, I raced up the I-17 to catch up with them.
7:10 a.m. ~ text from Joseph: “She loved it!”
When I drove in, Joseph and Elena were grinning ear to ear. We celebrated their engagement at the landing site, had champagne refills, and received hoot’s ‘n’ holla’s from the Rainbow Ryders crew and the other passengers.
Joseph went to Build-A-Bear and put this bear together. He recorded his voice in the bear moments before their hot air balloon took flight. They met at a local clinic downtown Phoenix where Elena works. He’s a doctor, she’s a nurse.
After the Rainbow Ryders packed up their balloons, baskets, and equipment, we took a ride over to CityNorth to continue their engagement session with a more urban feel.
I’m so excited for Joseph + Elena! Congratulations and I can’t wait to photograph your wedding day!
